Name: Dawn Cox Nickname: D.C.
Where are you from: According to a book I once saw, Venus How did you get into radio? I'm a masochist, so it's a perfect fit.

Best thing about working for Rock 103: The music. The boss. It's not just a job, it's a way of life.
Hobbies: Verbally flogging people who abuse animals, free booze, reading, zombies, pissing off people who annoy me, smoking, playing with my fire breathing hell hound, building my dungeon... the usual stuff.
3 things you couldn't live without: Oxygen, water and food HA!! On the dramatic side - smokes, Mt Dew and attention.
3 things you can live without: Non smokers, bible thumpers, and the ACLU.
Best concert: Soooooo many. Foo Fighters NEVER disappoint.
On the street you're usually mistaken for: a high class call girl.
If you could bring back any artist from the great beyond: Layne Staley
Reality show you would most like to be on and why: I loathe "reality" programming.

weekend happenings
Friday 09-05-2008 2:35pm ET
Getting ready to head out to the PX at Ft Benning. I'll be there from 4 - 6p, stop by to win tickets to tomorrow's Grand Funk Railroad show.
Tomorrow, I'll be at Aroma Senses from 11a-1p then back out to Benning for the GFRR show at 6p.
I used to be stationed at Benning, back in my PAO days and also broke my face there as a kid in a pretty gnarly bike wreck. Always love going back there. So stop by today and/or tomorrow and say hi.
We're giving you tickets to the Shrine Circus this weekend on another Rock Mob Member Winning Weekend. Listen for the ticket window to open, be caller ten and win. It's that easy.
Enjoy your weekend! Be careful, be safe and keep rockin' with your home for everything that rocks, Rock 103.

sometimes it's difficult to come up with a witty topic
Thursday 09-04-2008 1:05am ET
Seriously, the reason I don't blog as much as I'd like is I find it very difficult to come up with a title. Unless there's something specific in mind. At least a dozen times a day I think of things I'd like to share, but discount most of them as the ramblings of a lunatic.
But I will do better. It's my Fall resolution. That's kinda like a New Year's resolution, but more practical and likely to be kept. No real pressure.
Today was the birthday of the man, the myth, the legend... Chaos. We had a very yummy turtle cake thanks to the folks at Pat-A-Cakes for saving my ass. I AM very good when it comes to baking, however, I've not had the chance to perfect it in a gas oven. And gas bills are too high for me to play around all willy nilly in the kitchen.
I digress.
The cake was delicious. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take a picture of it before Chaos cut it.

Yes, that's my K-bar. Didn't have anything else to cut it with. It's pretty sad that the first time I get to whip it out, was to go to town on a carmel covered taste of heaven.
On a completely unrelated note, the only way to watch political conventions is on CSPAN. Seriously. There's no talk, no interjection by party hacks, ignorant talking heads or people pushing their own agendas. You listen to what the folks are pitching and form your own opinion on what they said. I don't care what side you're on, both are just as guilty of bad behavior as the other. We don't need to be beat in the head with the bashing of opponents. We need to know why we should put our money on their horse. What are they going to do, how do they plan to do it?
It really is the Underpants Gnome theory.
- steal underpants
- ...
- make money
Kinda works out to 1) elect me 2)... 3) life's peachy
There has to be a why/how. It's very vexing. Thankfully, I'm not hearing as much "We never should've invaded Iraq" talk.... or maybe I've succeeded in finally tuning it out. Whether or not we should've is no longer the point. Bickering on that topic, or blaming or rationalizing, doesn't change the situation. We're there. It's one of those things that needs the focus on the present and future.
See. You wonder why I have a difficult time picking a subject.
Since I don't want to leave you on a political rant, I'll close with the following short tale and photo.
Had a truly fantastic time at the STP show but was kinda bummed I didn't get to meet the guys. Had gotten kinda spoiled the past few shows, lol. Scott's voice is great, probably my second all time favorite. There's a top five, I'll post that at a later time... I have a lot of top five lists. Anyway. I shared that with my dear friend Bell, who is a very talented and an even kinder person. She sent me an email with an attachment called "yes you did". It made me smile and hopefully gives you a good chuckle.

help celebrate Chaos's birthday!!!
Thursday 08-28-2008 3:11pm ET
The man, they myth, the legend - Chaos, is having a birthday next Wednesday. Let's shower the bastard with greetings and well wishes on the anniversary of his birth.
Send in your cards, bottles of booze, the hottie stripper next door.
Whoever sends in the coolest birthday greeting, will get a nifty Rock 103 prize pack containing cds of your favorite Rock 103 artists.
DO IT!!!!!!!
having the sniffles sucks!!!!!
Tuesday 08-26-2008 2:25pm ET
I don't know if it's because of too many shows out in the rain or what, but being sick in the summer is not cool. Not by any means.
Thankfully, I've plenty of my favorite legal drug!!!! Benadryl is my basic cure all, leaves me in a nice warm and fuzzy haze, able to actually barely function. The only thing better than benadryl, is benadryl chased with a shot of Nyquil. But I don't advise that mixture if you've something to do other than sleep for a few days.
Stone Temple Pilots was FAN-F'ING-TASTIC. Rain or not, one of the better shows I've ever seen.
Sorry, no pics of the show.... weather simply made that impossible.
I'm gonna go slip into a cold/allergy medicine induced coma now.
Stone Temple Pilots

The STP show's tomorrow night - so retardedly excited about that. It'll be my first time seeing them.
Congrats to all of our Rock Mob winners who've picked up tickets to the show. It's gonna great.

Make sure to join Chaos and Rock 103 tonight at The Big City Club, downtown for Calu's Burlesque show. Doors open at 10p, Calu takes the stage at 11p.

IT'S STEVE MILLER'S BIRTHDAY
Wednesday 08-20-2008 1:41pm ET
While he *IS* a joker, not that Steve Miller.
This Steve Miller is one of our favorite bartenders at SoHo and he has survived another year without smacking the drunks around too much.
I'd tell you if you see him, wish him tidings of good joy on this, the anniversary of his birth, however, he's off. The big birthday bash will be Friday night at SoHo.
I can't wait to spank his tush.
Jackyl
Monday 08-18-2008 2:40pm ET
Wow. Where to start?!?!?!?!?
Jackyl's show at the Tabernacle was FANTASTIC!!!!! Jesse going to town with the chainsaw has to be one of my favorite rock 'n roll stage moments, ever.
Good company, good tunes and good times!!!!
For more pictures of the show, make sure to visit the Rock 103 photo gallery!!!

DO NOT TOUCH THE MASKS
Thursday 08-14-2008 2:46pm ET
Seriously, they'll boot you if you try. I didn't even want to touch them until they said we couldn't.
A wet and yet still joyful me with some of the guys of Slipknot.

The very, very, very, very, very bestest boss in the whole wide world.
We look damn good soaking wet.

I saw Pineapple Express. It's gloriously funny and chalked full of blood, fantastic dialog and weed. Two big green thumbs up!!
my future husband and me

That's David Draiman, lead singer for Disturbed, and I won't say I love him, but I'd run off with him if he asked.
Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest was last night and it was a helluva good show. Rained like mad the whole time, but totally worth it.
And seeing Disturbed perform Down with the Sickness live? I still have goosebumps. Hopefully I'll be able to toss up some of the pics with Slipknot.
Here's the whole group for the Meet & Greet w/ Disturbed.
